# Question types

> Every question type you can add to a FormAI survey or quiz, grouped by what it collects, from short text to ratings, matrices, and contact details.

FormAI offers more than twenty question types for surveys and quizzes. Pick the one that matches the answer you want, and your respondents get the right input without extra setup.

## Add a question

<Steps>

    In the editor toolbar, click **+**.

  <Step title="Choose a type">
    Question types are grouped under **Text**, **Choices**, **Opinion**, **Other**, and **Contact & Payment**. Hover a type to preview how it looks on a phone, then click it to add it.

    Type your question and, where relevant, your answer choices directly on the canvas.

## Survey and quiz question types

### Text

| Type | What it collects |
| - | - |
| **Short text** | A short written answer. |
| **Long text** | A longer, free-form written answer. |
| **Number** | A numeric answer. |
| **Website** | A web address. |
| **Date** | A date. |

### Choices

| Type | What it collects |
| - | - |
| **Yes/No** | A simple yes or no answer. |
| **Policy** | A response to a policy or agreement statement. |
| **Options** | One or more picks from a list of choices you write. |
| **Dropdown** | A pick from a dropdown list of options. |
| **Matrix** | Answers across a grid of rows and columns. |
| **Picture Choice** | A pick from options shown as pictures. |

### Opinion

| Type | What it collects |
| - | - |
| **Scale** | A position on a numeric scale. |
| **Rating** | A rating, such as a star rating. |
| **Ranking** | Choices put in order of preference. |
| **Experience scale** | A rating of an experience on a scale. |

### Other

| Type | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Question set** | Groups related questions together. |
| **Multi question page** | Shows several questions on a single page. |
| **Welcome Screen** | The first screen respondents see. See [Welcome and end screens](/user-guide/editor/welcome-and-end-screens). |
| **End Screen** | The last screen respondents see. Greyed out when the form already has one. |
| **Slide** | A content slide rather than a question. |
| **Quote** | A quote or highlighted text block. |

| **Address** | A postal address. |
| **Phone Number** | A phone number. |
| **Email** | An email address. |
| **Contact Information** | Contact details in a single block. |

## Quiz scoring
