# Question settings

> Control how each question behaves: make it required, randomize choices, allow multiple selection, add an image, duplicate it, or delete it.

Every question in the editor has its own settings. Use them to decide whether an answer is required, how choices are laid out, and whether respondents can select more than one option.

| **Required** | Respondents must answer before they can continue. You can reword the error they see in [form settings](/user-guide/settings/form-settings). |
| **Horizontal alignment** | Lays the choices out horizontally. |
| **Multiple selection** | Lets respondents select more than one choice. |
| **Random order** | Shows the choices in a random order. |
| **Show other** | Adds an **Other** choice. You can rename its label in [form settings](/user-guide/settings/form-settings). |

<Note>
  Quiz questions have extra settings for scoring, such as **Answer score** and **Mistake penalty**. See [Scoring and answers](/user-guide/quizzes/scoring-and-answers).
