# Start with a blank form

> Skip AI generation and build a survey, quiz, or live form yourself by adding questions one at a time in the editor.

If you already know what you want to ask, start with a blank form and add the questions yourself. Creating a blank form does not use AI credits.

## Create a blank form

  <Step title="Open the New form dialog">
    On the **Dashboard**, click **New form** at the top right.

  <Step title="Choose a type and workspace">
    Pick **Survey**, **Quiz**, or **Live** from the tabs, and choose a workspace with the selector on the right.

    At the bottom of the dialog, below "Prefer to build it yourself?", click **Start with a blank form**. The editor opens with your new form.

## Add your first questions

    In the toolbar, click **+** to open the Add question menu.

  <Step title="Pick a question type">
    Hover over a type to see a live phone preview, then click it to add it to your form. See [Question types](/user-guide/editor/question-types) for the full list.

  <Step title="Edit the question in place">
    Click the title, description, or choices on the canvas and type. For choice questions, click **Add choice** to add more options.

  <Step title="Adjust the question">
    Use the buttons at the top right of the question to add a **Field image**, change **Field settings** such as **Required**, or style it with **Field theme**.

Repeat to build out the form. Your changes save automatically, and a "Saved" indicator appears above the preview.

<Tip>
  The Add question menu also includes **Welcome Screen** and **End Screen** under **Other**. **End Screen** is greyed out when your form already has one. See [Welcome and end screens](/user-guide/editor/welcome-and-end-screens).

## Mix manual and AI editing

A blank form does not lock you out of AI. Open **Assistant** in the top bar at any time and ask [FormAI Agent](/user-guide/editor/edit-with-ai-agent) to add or reword questions. Agent edits use AI credits.
